CVUK’s 5 favourite Fashion Moments of 2014
1. Fashion shows were not just about the clothes
This year catwalks were not just all about the clothes. Most notably, Chanel’s spring 2015 show ended with a feminist protest. Opening ceremony’s show within a play offered a critique of the fashion industry’s failings and Marc Jacobs show’s soundtrack commented on suburban life. There was so much more than just fashion this year, with designers conveying a much stronger message.
2. Why all the nudity?
One of the most stand out trends in 2014 seemed to be the naked body. Stars such as Rhianna, Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian have been flashing the flesh in some rather risky outfits. Rhianna stunned us in her custom made Adam Selman dress, which left very little to the imagination. Miley Cyrus dared to bare all this year in her outlandish outfits and nipple tassels. However, can we forget Kim Kardashian’s #breaktheinternet images (we have only just recovered from this), the star who has become a force to be reckoned with showed us her famous assets, on the cover of Paper magazine. This picture when released caused quite a stir and has become the subject of many parodies.
3.The weddings
When a celebrity gets married they are inundated with the worlds press looking for even a tiny morsel of information. With lots of nuptial’s taking place this year here at CVUK we chose our 3 favourites; first we have the wedding of Kim and Kanye or as they are better known Kimye, this powerful duo married back in May.
Second are Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, after many years together the pair tied the knot with a very special and noted accessory, Angelina’s veil had her children’s hand drawn pictures added, allowing her own twist to her simple Versace gown.
Last but certainly not least we saw the eternal bachelor George Clooney finally settle down and who better than the gorgeous Amal Almuddin a Human rights lawyer, the perfect mixture of beauty and brains. Her gown was designed by the late Oscar de la Renta, however it wasn’t only her wedding dress that received a lot of attention but her entire wardrobe from their weekend wedding.
4. The Jenner’s take over
Step aside Kourtney, Kim and Khloe Kardashian your younger sisters are taking the fashion world by storm. Kendall Jenner became a house hold name this year as she took over fashion weeks all over the globe, and by bagging fashion campaigns such as Estee Lauder and covers in LOVE, Dazed and Teen Vogue, she is here to stay. Her younger sister Kylie not only has been all over Instagram with her now famous pout but she has also launched her own hair extension line, Kylie Hair Kouture by Bellami. Its official, the Jenner’s are one to watch.
5. Kara and Kate/Jourdan and Naomi
Burberry campaigns this year have been amazing from the dapper Romeo Beckham to the coupling of Naomi and Kate with some relatively new girls on the block. Cara and Kate modelled the brand’s signature scent, and then three months later Naomi and Jourdan Dunn work together on the brands spring/summer 2015 images. The collaboration of these models is great for the British brand.
