Kansai Yamamoto: Fashion in Motion
Kansai Yamamoto was the first Japanese designer to hold a fashion show in the Uk (1971) and he is famously known for being the designer behind David Bowie’s iconic costumes.
Early this month CVUK were lucky enough to receive tickets to his latest show for the V&A’s Fashion in motion.
Inspired by his passion of vibrant colours and Japanese culture, his pieces encapsulate a free and energetic spirit that infuses traditional and contemporary styles. His work, spanning over 4 decades was showcased in a dramatic production combining fashion with music, dance and film – making for an explosion of visuals and anticipation – you really didn’t know what to expect. See images from the show below:
We love Kansai’s work, his use of layering and theatrics, a truly inspiring artist.
