CVUK Trend – Monochrome

We’re kick starting 2013 with the hottest trend set for this season, so ditch the colour and throw out the florals as Monochrome is back.

I think it’s safe to say that as we have our sights set on Spring even we are slightly sick of floral prints covering trousers, jumpers and dresses. Over the past few Summers we’ve been swamped by the overly feminine trend and now, we’re happy to say, that for 2013 it’s out with the flowers and in with the shades. If it’s not black and white we’re not interested, so match crisps whites with jet blacks and set your style dial to sophisticated.

Monochrome was all over the Spring/Summer 2013 catwalks with designers Marc Jacobs, Giles Deacon and Oscar de la Renta embracing their love of shades rather than colours as the runways were awash with fabulous black and white designs.

Alexander Wang Giles

Alexander Wang & Giles both Spring/Summer 2013

Giles and Alexander Wang showed cut-out patterned mini dresses and knee-high cut-out gladiators while Oscar de la Renter opted for feminine styles of midi dresses with black paneling. Marc Jacobs showed beach-chic blazers in bold stripes teamed with matching summer skirts and square bags.

Take inspiration from the catwalk and channel this trend through every outfit. To help you out we’ve taken ourselves out onto the high-street to find the pieces embracing the trend. Here are our top 10:

 MangoTopshop trouser

Mango Leather-Sleeved Trench £114.99 & Topshop Chequered Trousers £28.00

This trench is the perfect way to make a smooth wardrobe transition from Winter to Spring giving your outdoors style a much fresher look. Wear with black tailored trousers and pointed courts for a dressed up look or over skinny jeans and boots for a weekend away.

H&MNext

H&M Illusion Dress £19.99 & Next Striped Blazer £45.00

Last year’s optical illusion dress became a celebrity favourite and this year’s H&M version is combining a svelte (impressioned) figure with Spring’s biggest trend. Accessorise with chunky jewelry and heeled boots. Brave the cold with bare legs to really accentuate the look.

COS Emilio

COS Skirt £69.00 & Emilio Cavallini Tights £14.00

If patterned tights are your thing then these ones by Emilio Cavallini are the easiest way to introduce the trend into your wardrobe. Team with a LBD for an outfit worthy of conversation.

River IslandTopshop Sweater

River Island Midi-Dress £40.00 & Topshop Letter-Print Sweater £34.00

This funky letter print pattern is also available on trousers and and dresses in Topshop, but we’re obsessing over this loose fitting sweater. Wear with leather trousers and heeled sandals for a stylish day look or pair with a figure-hugging mini skirt and stilettos for a girls night out. We love!

ZaraReiss

ZARA Zebra Clutch £29.99 & Reiss Dogtooth Style Jumper £60.00

Need to spice up a simple outfit? This zebra print clutch from ZARA will do the trick.

Team horizontal stripes with vertical ones for a bolder trend, or pair a patterned monochrome top with simple black trousers for a simpler look that’s still right on trend.
